Artists Carol Bershad and Nan Rumpf will facilitate the session, using the Art Sparks deck they’ve published to inspire creative ideas for water media painters. The event is taking place at the Reynolds Teaching, Learning and Creativity (TLC) Studios & Media Lab in Dedham Square.  Free sample cards for each attendee.

(open to the public; a fun way for water media artists to get unstuck, explore new ideas, and try new techniques.)

Bring your own water media supplies: watercolors, acrylics, or gouache paints; paper or other substrate; brushes; water container; pencil. Optional assorted art materials: glue stick, collage materials, scissors.

Carol Bershad: An educator and artist with a background in High School Biology, her work focuses on landscapes, animals, and florals. She has studied watercolor, gouache, and Chinese brush painting and is a board member of the Newton Watercolor Society.

Nan Rumpf: A nationally recognized water media artist, known for her experimental approach and teaching through Zoom. She is affiliated with Dedham Art Association, the Wellesley Society of Artists and the New England Watercolor Society.

Registration ends February 22nd or when the session is filled.

Celebrate with art and clean out clutter! You are invited to our Holiday Gathering and Art Swap at Endicott Estate on Monday, December 2nd, from 6:45 to 8:45 p.m. Festive hats and holiday sweaters are encouraged to celebrate the season.

Art Talk on Portraiture by Mary Minifie

Art Swap #1 – Bring your gently used or new extra art supplies to swap with others. Please limit large items (for example, frames). No art books, please. Leftovers will be donated to the Art Department at the High School.

Art Swap #2 – At home, create a miniature work of art in any medium on a
4'' x 4'' substrate. Bring it to the December 2nd meeting, and we will have a blind Art Swap exchange. It’s a great way to meet other members and guests.

We will have other fundraisers for the Food Pantry instead of donating miniatures this time. The Art Swap is just for fun.

Dedham Art Association’s 2024 Fall Members’ Exhibit Jurors

Mixed media, collage, and pastel are the mediums of choice for artist Karole Nicholson. She has participated in many master-level workshops with esteemed instructors in the United States and Europe. Foremost subjects are intimate scenes of the local landscape. Texture, a gentle palette, and an abstract view are the components that draw her into developing each painting, many of which have appeared in national juried exhibitions and international competitions. She is represented by the Next Door Gallery in Mansfield, Massachusetts.

After working as an electrical engineer for over two decades, Ken Salome decided to pick up a camera and fulfill his passion for photography. He often features nature in his imagery and employs water as the underlying theme. “Like many artists of every category, my interest in photography started at a very young age. Then, life got in the way. My photography rebooted when I stepped away from the daily nine-to-five slog.”

Dedham Art Association’s Watercolor Demonstration with Tony Conner

Tony Conner’s path as a self-taught artist has followed a serious and active course that has been dedicated to a single medium, watercolor, and an apprenticeship to its unique disciplines. While primarily expressing and interpreting the landscape and seascape, his paintings reflect an interest in a variety of subjects. He prefers working from direct observation. Whether it is a landscape, seascape, still life or figure model, he is attracted to a particular scene or viewpoint based on the pattern of individual objects, contrasts of color, value, or intensity and, most of all, the quality of light.

Tony’s paintings are widely exhibited in juried, group, and solo exhibits. His work has been included in many national juried exhibits including the New England Watercolor Society National Biennial, Adirondacks National Exhibition of American Watercolors, and the Hudson Valley Art Association Annual National Exhibition, among others. He is a Signature Member of both the New England and Vermont Watercolor Societies and an Artist Member of the North Shore Arts Association and New Yorks’ venerable Salmagundi Club.
